A high surf advisory has been posted for east-facing shores of the Big Island, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

Wave heights of 6 to 8 feet are expected along the island’s northern, eastern and southern coasts through 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The service categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning of strong breaking waves, shore break and strong long shore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous.
